Re: Junot Diaz- I HATED The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and could not figure out for the life of me why so many people loved it. This was before everything about his behavior came out.
On the other hand, I do love Jonathan Franzen and kind of hate myself for it because he's incredibly annoying. (A bit less so in recent years, I think.) But The Corrections is one of my favorite books ever, and Crossroads is excellent, too.
Some books on the list I like, some I don't like, some I haven't read. I am glad that multiple people said Random Family- excellent book and I'm getting impatient waiting for Adrian Nicole LeBlanc to publish her second book.
I loved All Fours and I disagree with the critical essay you linked. The narrator is not likable and I think her view is meant to be criticized. When rejecting the older, heavier woman, I think she is rejecting herself - this is right before she changes everything. I thought the older woman was ultimately portrayed as free in all ways. Something enviable. The narrator’s diet stuff is also meant to be indicative of how constrained she has felt and the toxicity of perfect motherhood. And the narrator has never exercised previously and then she starts power lifting weights and is empowered by doing so - strong, not thin. FWIW.
Seriously thinking about the essay classes (although bummed I didn't have the scratch for the early-bird discount). And I am also a giant fan of crepe myrtle. The Japanese name literally translates to monkey-slide.
THANK YOU for dragging the NYT book list. It was so disappointing. AND BORING. but also shout-out to Stephen King for putting his own book on his list LOL.
Also, I'm also suffering from the ADHD shortage. Pink, Brown, and Rain Sounds playlists on Spotify has been the only thing helping me recently. Just thought I'd pass it along.
I've been listening to those Brain Flossing ones and praying. I just...can we get some stimulants up in this bitch?! I feel like it's time to start reaching out to other markets to make some for the US if need be.
I know. Luckily I am on wellbutrin for my depression so that helps like minimally? But the last two years have been so stressful and exhausting trying to find meds in stock. I agree, can we just ask for help here from other places?!?!?!
Texting you immediately to discuss the dense bean salad

Just picked up the bee sting from the library and felt instantly intimidated by the size so thanks for the pep talk 😜

I too had beef with the list today. Where is Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi!?! That book is amazing.
i am so so curious what your least favorite book is!!!!
The bee sting was the most original writing I’ve read in years!! Definitely felt long but just really stuck with me for a while after finishing it

Agreed re: Junot Diaz big eye roll
Literally could never hear from him again and would be fine.
