Goddamn it. I'm going to be so mad at you if this is what finally convinced me to start morning pages lol

As a fellow ADHDer who needs a "platform" to do her work effectively, I also struggle with the phone thing. Last year, I asked all of my followers what they do to help them have a better relationship with social media/their phones. I compiled their responses and posted them to Threads: https://www.threads.net/@shohrehdavoodi/post/CwaxLPzJ20s.

From everyone's suggestions, I started using the Opal app on my phone. It's an annual subscription, but I have found it worth it. I used to sit and scroll on my phone every night before bed instead of reading and sit and scroll in bed in the morning first thing upon waking up instead of getting out of bed, and I really wanted to kick those habits. I have blocks set up in Opal to keep me off of certain apps for certain hours so that I can't engage in that scrolling anymore, and it's been super effective.

My work schedule changes every day since I'm freelance, so I haven't had as much luck with using a consistent block during working hours. Instead, I've started using Do Not Disturb mode on my iPhone much more liberally and I have that set to only allow notifications from my partner and from our doorbell/cameras.

It's a forever work in progress, but I do feel less out of control and miserable than I did last year.

Thank you for sharing this! I have Opal and I do (reluctantly) love it.

I’ve done the whole dumb phone thing (it’s a marketing scheme to buy a brick and I fell for it) I have tried it all and the only thing that worked for me is taking a step back. I miss so many people but I am a firm believer God, the universe, luck, whatever it is, will bring people together. I have run into people I never thought I’d ever meet IRL, seen them “online” on other parts of the internet (hey, hi, it’s me) and the texts groups and messages just make those memes so much more special. Even trying it for a small amount of time soothes the brain (I’m not a dr but just an avid social media user for over a decade) I will warn you the dumb phone is a pipeline to this 😂

I bought a Brick (it sucks) and I do feel like taking a step back might be the only real way.

I've been following you since the Just a Titch days, love seeing that honorable mention haha. Pretty sure I learned about 750words from you - I have never been able to get a morning pages practice going, but that site has still been useful for the occasional brain dump when I don't feel like writing in a notebook. Sometimes typing is just so much easier than handwriting when I need to get something onto the page.

I love this! I read The Creative Act by Rick Rubin recently and have been wanting to dip my toes back into the writing pool but have been too nervous to do so. I’m going to check out 750 words and see how that goes.
